California company that makes aftermarket parts for motorcycles may start operations in Sturgis so it can use that famous name for marketing purposes.

STURGIS, S.D. (AP) -- A California company that makes aftermarket parts for motorcycles may start operations in Sturgis so it can use that famous name for marketing purposes.

The firm isn't being identified yet because some of its California workers will be losing their jobs.

Sturgis City Manager David Boone says the company will announce more details later.

He says about 50 people initially would be employed at the Sturgis plant, which could be built and operating within two years.

Boone says the parts to be produced will fit Harley-Davidsons, Vulcans and a variety of other motorcycles.
