Glass Coating Company Closing In Iowa

AGC Flat Glass North America, which makes coating for glass used in cars, homes and businesses, announced that it will close its plant in Hampton this fall.

HAMPTON, Iowa (AP) -- A company that makes coating for glass used in cars, homes and businesses has announced that it will close its plant in Hampton this fall.

AGC Flat Glass North America announced earlier this week that it will close the plant as part of a nationwide restructuring. The Hampton plant, which applies coating to glass used homes and businesses, employs about 60 workers.

AGC also will close plants in California and Quebec. A production line at plant in Tennessee also will be shut down.

In all, about 800 employees will be affected.

The company says the restructuring will allow it to focus on value-added building products, automotive glass and solar glass.
