Geothermal Systems Company Could Bring Jobs To S.D.

Enertech has spent $2l8 million doubling the size of a plant it bought in Mitchell, S.D., and could bring 30 more jobs to the area.

MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) -- A company that specializes in geothermal heating and cooling systems could bring 30 more jobs to Mitchell.

Enertech Inc., which is headquartered in Greenville, Ill., last year purchased Hydron Module in Mitchell and has since spent $2l8 million doubling the size of the building near the airport.

''It's a local company being purchased from somebody from out of town and they chose to keep it in town,'' said Bob Sebert, president of the Mitchell Area Development Corporation. ''That says something about Mitchell and the type of people here. They could have just as well moved it to their hometown, but they chose to keep it here.''

Richard Benda, secretary of the Department of Tourism and State Development, praised Enertech for its role in the field of renewable energy.

''Geothermal systems are becoming a big part of the renewable energy picture,'' Benda said. ''When you talk about green, this is it.''

Overall, the Mitchell facility is expected to employ about 50 people. Approximately 20 already work at the plant.

''When someone puts a geothermal system in their home, it will provide heating and cooling for a fraction of the cost of traditional sources,'' Steve Smith, managing partner of Enertech.
