Food Company Opening $4 Million Plant In S.C.

Augusta, Ga.-based FPL Food plans to open a plant in West Columbia that will employ about 100 people.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- An Augusta, Ga., company plans to open a plant in West Columbia that will employ about 100 people.
 
The Commerce Department said Wednesday that FPL Food LLC will occupy a plant that closed in December.
 
The agency says FPL Food will spend about $4.3 million and will transfer some workers from Augusta.
 
Marketing director Steve Hixon told The State newspaper of Columbia that FPL Food will have about 800 workers in Augusta and Columbia when the expansion is complete.
 
The company makes corned beef hash, marinated beef steak tips, pre-seasoned frozen beef patties, pre-cooked roast beef and pre-seasoned ground beef.
