Computer Maker Closing Tennessee Plant

MPC Computers is shutting down its LaVergne, Tenn., manufacturing facility and moving operations to Mexico.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Computer maker MPC Computers is shutting down its LaVergne manufacturing facility and moving operations to Mexico.

The Nampa, Idaho-based company said in a financial statement this week the manufacturing will be moved to an existing facility in Juarez over the next six months.

WSMV-TV in Nashville reported the move, intended to reduce costs and improve efficiency, will affect at least 160 people in the Tennessee facility.

MPC is offering a severance package and assisting the employees in finding new jobs.
