Citation Closing Aluminum Factory

Michigan-based Citation will close a Butler, Ind., aluminum factory in July to focus on its iron business.

BUTLER, Ind. (AP) -- Citation Corporation will close a Butler aluminum factory in July to focus on its iron business.

Michigan-based Citation says layoffs will start in May for the northeast Indiana plant's 138 employees. The factory makes permanent and semi-permanent aluminum molding. That work and machinery will be transferred to locations in Bristol, Indiana, and Milwaukee, which are owned by Diversified Machine Inc.

Citation human resources vice president Bill Goodin says some Butler employees may be hired by Diversified Machine.

He said the closing allows Citation to focus on ductile iron, a form of cast iron.

Citation acquired the factory in 1996. The company employs 2,700 in several states.
