Aluminum Manufacturer Closing Tennessee Plant

Aleris International announced it will close its alloy facility in Shelbyville by the end of the second quarter of 2008.

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Aluminum manufacturer Aleris International Inc. has announced it will close its alloy facility in Shelbyville.
 
The company said in a released statement Wednesday production will be phased out and the site is expected to be closed by the end of the second quarter of 2008. The plant has about 70 employees.
 
The company said production will be transferred to other Aleris facilities, but did not specify if any of the jobs at the Shelbyville plant will be moved elsewhere.
 
Company officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
 
Headquartered in Beachwood, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, Aleris produces aluminum rolled products and extrusions, aluminum recycling and specification alloy production.
