Adidas Reorganizing U.S. Operations

German shoe company will keep its U.S. headquarters in Portland, Oregon, but cut jobs there to gain a competitive advantage in the domestic market.

PORTLAND, Oregon (AP) -- Adidas says it is reorganizing its U.S. operations to gain a competitive advantage in the domestic market.

German-owned Adidas will keep its U.S. headquarters in Portland, Oregon, but cut jobs there Thursday. A company spokeswoman pegged the number of job losses at less than 25.

The company is also adding an undisclosed number of jobs across the country. The company is creating regional offices in Dallas, New York and Chicago.

Patrik Nilsson, president of Adidas America, says the move is part of a strategy to position the company closer to U.S. retailers and consumers.

Adidas is the second largest athletic shoe and apparel company in the world.
