Strike Halts Production At Volvo Va. Plant

Workers from Volvo’s Dublin truck plant went on strike February 1 after the union’s bargaining committee failed to reach a contract agreement with the company.

DUBLIN, Va. (AP) — Union workers continue their strike against Volvo Trucks North America that has halted production at the company's Dublin factory.

More than 2,400 of the plant's 2,900 employees are members of UAW Local 2069, which went on strike on February 1 after its bargaining committee failed to reach a contract agreement with Volvo.

Company spokesman Jim McNamara confirmed the plant was not in production Monday, but declined to say when production might resume.

The plant produces all Volvo trucks sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Volvo announced in December that it would lay off up to 650 workers early this year.
