TOKYO (AP) — Japanese automakers Nissan and Mitsubishi announced Wednesday that they have agreed to expand their minicar production alliance.
The agreement aims to expand the scope of their production of minicar and light commercial vehicle on the basis of an original equipment manufacturing, or OEM, the companies said in a statement.
Currently, Nissan Motor Co. supplies light commercial vehicles to Mitsubishi Motors Corp., while Mitsubishi supplies Nissan with minicars and light commercial vehicles, both on OEM basis.
Under the agreement, Mitsubishi will add Pajero mini-SUV to its OEM supply to Nissan beginning autumn this year.
The two companies, which announced the tie-up last year, will also consider jointly developing and producing light commercial vehicles for domestic and overseas markets.
