MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico's auto exports jumped 33 percent in January, while production rose by nearly 26 percent compared with the same time period in 2007, the private auto industry group reported Monday.
Domestic sales, in contrast, dropped by 0.8 percent, the Mexican Auto Industry Association said in a news release.
Mexico manufactured 166,149 units, exported 118,416 units and sold 96,844 units domestically last month, the association said.
The January increase is a marked contrast to the same month in 2007, when production fell 15 percent and exports fell 20.7 percent compared with January 2006. Overall in 2007, production rose 2.2 percent, while exports grew 5 percent and domestic sales fell 3.5 percent.
