Kaiser Aluminum Plans To Upgrade Three Plants

Aluminum products maker will spend $14 million more to expand capacity, increase extrusion capabilities and improve energy efficiency at three U.S. plants.

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif. (AP) — Kaiser Aluminum Corp. said Wednesday it will spend $14 million more on expanding its extrusion capability and improving energy efficiency at three U.S. plants.

The additional spending brings its total capital spending budget to $244 million for growth at developed operations.

The aluminum-products maker will add capacity for automotive-product extrusions at its Tulsa, Okla., plant. Demand will be driven by new specifications for auto parts that require better fuel efficiency, Kaiser said.

The company will also make upgrades to improve energy efficiency and add capacity at its Sherman, Texas, and Spokane, Wash., facilities.

The extrusion process takes raw materials like aluminum and molds them into specific products.
