Georgia Frozen Food Plant To Close

Cincinnati-based Pierre Foods Incorporated is shuttering its Cedartown, Georgia, frozen food plant; 153 employees affected.

CEDARTOWN, Ga. (AP) — An Ohio company is shuttering its Cedartown, Georgia, frozen food plant.
 
Cincinnati-based Pierre Foods Incorporated, which owns the Zartic plant, announced the closing Friday as employees picked up their paychecks. The 153 people employed at the plant will receive eight weeks' severance pay and some will be offered a chance to transfer to other plants owned by the parent company.
 
Pierre Foods acquired the Rome, Georgia,-based Zartic in 2006. Manufacturing of Zartic products will be moved to other Pierre Foods plants.
 
Zartic produces frozen meats for food service and hospitality operators.
