Freescale Semiconductor CEO To Resign

Chip maker said CEO Michael Mayer plans to resign, but will continue in his position until the company finds a successor.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Chip maker Freescale Semiconductor Inc. said Friday that Chairman and Chief Executive Michael Mayer plans to resign but will continue in his job until the company finds a successor.

He joined Freescale as chief executive in 2004 and led the company through its transition from a Motorola division to a public company. After two years of public trading, Freescale went private in 2006 in a buyout deal worth about $17.6 billion.

Freescale makes a diverse range of chips and is one of America's oldest chip companies.
