Essex Aluminum Plant In Ontario To Close

CAW Local 200 President Mike Vince says the company has put almost 600 workers on notice that the facility will close in the spring of 2009.

WINDSOR, Ont. (AP) — Workers at the Essex aluminum plant in Windsor, Ont., are being told the facility will be shut down in 2009.

The plant is a joint venture between Ford of Canada and Nemak of Canada Corp., which produces cylinder heads.

Vince says this latest setback in the Canadian auto industry will have a ripple effect throughout the Windsor-Essex area.

He says the loss of good paying jobs affects everyone from suppliers to the people who operate small businesses.
