Korean Countertop Maker Opening Facility In Ontario

LEDC will build a 150,000 square foot manufacturing facility in London, Ont., creating at least 200 jobs.

LONDON, Ont. (CP) — A Korean building supply company is expected to open a manufacturing facility in London, Ont., and create at least 200 jobs.

Mayor Ann Marie DeCicco-Best will reportedly confirm the investment at her annual state of the city address at the London Chamber of Commerce.

Sources say the Korean firm LEDC, which builds artificial countertops, will build a 150,000 square foot facility in the city.

The LEDC has scheduled a ceremony to break ground for the plant after the mayor's breakfast speech.

Sources say the number of people employed at the plant could jump to 1,000 if other potential phases of production are added over several years.

Although he could not confirm details, city controller Gord Hume says he has heard the rumours and believes it's exactly what the city needs to diversify its industrial base.
