Michelin To Upgrade Nova Scotia Plant

Tire maker's $4.2 million investment will upgrade facility's equipment and help plant make new lines of tires but doesn't mean more jobs for the area.

PICTOU, N.S. — Michelin will invest $4.2 million to upgrade its plant in Granton, Nova Scotia.

Michelin North America president Jim Micali made the announcement Thursday night during an awards evening held by the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce.

Micali said the money will finance the upgrading of equipment and help improve overall production at the Pictou County plant.

It also will help the plant produce new lines of tires.

But he says the cash injection will not mean new jobs.

Earlier this year, the company announced upgrades to its Nova Scotia plants in Waterville and Bridgewater.

Micali says there is no provincial government funding involved in the latest upgrade.

Michelin employs 3,500 people across the province and pays out $189 million a year in wages and benefits.
