BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) — European antitrust regulators Tuesday cleared U.S. electrical products maker Emerson Electric Co.'s $350 million purchase of the embedded communications computing business of cell phone maker Motorola Inc.
Embedded computing technology is used to control machines or distant computer systems and manage information.
The division's embedded computing products and services are used by communication infrastructure and equipment makers for telecommunications, medical imaging and military applications, among others.
''The transaction would not significantly impede effective competition'' in Europe, the European Commission said in a statement.
The companies announced the deal in September, saying they expected the transaction to be finished by the end of the year.
European regulators get to review such deals if they do enough business within the European Union to affect competition.
