New 52,000-sq.-ft. silicon research and design center in Bangalore opens as chip maker revs up development of its new 'Shanghai' microprocessor.

NEW YORK (AP) — One of the world's largest chipmaking companies, Advanced Micro Devices Inc., said Thursday that it plans to open a 52,000-sq.-ft. silicon research and design center in Bangalore, India.
 
AMD's chief executive, Hector Ruiz, traveled to Bangalore to inaugurate the new building on Thursday.
 
AMD's Bangalore engineering staff is leading the development of its new ''Shanghai'' microprocessor.
 
The company said it will continue operating its old Bangalore facility for administration, sales and marketing staff.
 
AMD's share price has been jittery in recent weeks as analysts are unsure that AMD can gain market share on market leader Intel Corp.
 
AMD's shares dropped 10 cents to $10.25 Thursday morning.
