Swiss pharmaceutical company will invest US$700 million in the production facility.

SINGAPORE (AP) — Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis AG said Monday it will invest US$700 million (euro485 million) in a cell culture production facility in Singapore.

The new facility is the largest investment to date by Novartis in its manufacturing capacity, the company said in a statement.

Construction of the plant will begin in 2008 and Novartis expects to complete it by 2012.

The new plant is the firm's second investment in Singapore following a US$180 million (euro125 million) facility that officially opened Monday.
