NEW HAVEN, Ind. (AP) — Parker Hannifin Corp. said it is eliminating 100 jobs at its air-conditioning supply plant in this Fort Wayne suburb.
The employees have been notified and will work their last shift Friday, said Brad Lichtenberger, operations manager for the climate systems division of the Cleveland-based company. After the cuts, the plant will have 820 employees, 720 of them hourly workers.
Lichtenberger said the job cuts were caused by reduced demand, the slow housing market and increased competition from Chinese manufacturers.
The New Haven plant supplies components and parts used in the retail air-conditioning business.
Lichtenberger said business is seasonal and he hopes it will increase next summer.
''I'm very confident they will find ways to bring back jobs. I'm not too worried about it,'' New Haven Mayor Terry McDonald said.
Parker Hannifin announced a $3.5 million investment to increase capacity at the New Haven plant in August 2006.
