Military vehicle manufacturer will invest $31 million and add 270 jobs.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A company that manufactures military vehicles plans to open a facility in north-central North Carolina, creating 270 jobs over the next four years, officials said Thursday.

Force Protection Inc., based in Ladson, S.C., will invest $31 million in Person County and move into a former Collins & Aikman plant outside Roxboro, according to a new release from Gov. Mike Easley's office.

The new facility will be used for manufacturing a new ''Cheetah'' vehicle line and other projects.

Easley said the company received a $500,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, a state program that aims to recruit industry and create jobs.
