Site Under Construction: Grassroot Industrial Plant Construction Jumps 33 Percent

According to Industrial Info Resources, the value of grassroot industrial plants under construction in the U.S. has risen to $88 billion.

The total investment value (TIV) of grassroot industrial plants under construction in the U.S. has risen 33 percent to $88 billion since October 2006, according to Industrial Info Resources.

Industrial Info defines grassroot plants as those being constructed from the ground up with no previous site improvements.

Once the plants are completed, they are expected to generate over 111,000 new hourly and salaried manufacturing jobs. The Mid-Atlantic Region will see the most new jobs with 28,995, followed by the Great Lakes Region with 23,902, the report said.

By industry, Industrial Manufacturing and Power has the most new plants under construction, but is followed closely by Metals & Minerals, Chemical Processing and Alternative Fuels.
