CORNING, N.Y. (AP) - Corning Inc. said late Wednesday it will spend $160 million to expand a Japanese plant's capacity to manufacture large-size glass substrates for active-matrix liquid-crystal displays.
The investment will be incurred over the next 18 months, with glass substrate production expected to begin by mid-2008.
The glass, fiber optics and specialty materials company did not disclose capacity figures. The plant is located in Shizuoka, Japan.
Company officials said the increased capacity will create additional support for the Japanese and Taiwanese markets, which are experiencing growing demand for LCD TV.
