Enersys Acquiring Leclanche Lead-Acid Battery Business

Leclanche business will give Enersys a presence in Swiss market.

Enersys, the industrial battery manufacturer, has announced its acquisition of the lead-acid battery business of Leclanche SA, Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland.

The transaction is expected to close in January 2007 and is subject to customary closing conditions.

Under the agreement, EnerSys will assume the customers and existing contracts of the Leclanche lead-acid battery business, along with certain sales and service employees to maintain the relationships with current customers.

According to Ray Kubis, president of EnerSys Europe, the acquisition will allow Enersys to increase their presence in the Swiss market. Additional investment and employment increases are planned for the Zurich area, Kubis said.
