ASML To Acquire Brion Technologies For $270 Million

ASML's acquisition of Brion will advance its semiconductor manufacturing technology.

ASML Holding NV, of the Netherlands, a manufacturer of semiconductor equipment, announced Tuesday its acquisition of Brion Technologies, Inc., a provider of advanced lithography solutions, for $270 million.

The transaction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2007.

Brion’s computational lithography technology allows semiconductor manufacturers to simulate the realized pattern of integrated circuits and to correct the mask pattern to optimize the manufacturing process and yield.

Brion, headquartered in Santa Clara, CA, will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of ASML.

According to Eric Meurice, president and CEO of ASML, the combination of the companies will extend ASML's ability to support the semiconductor industry and enhance the efficiency of its chip manufacturing.
