After a remarkable hiring spree and the acquisition of Whole Foods saw Amazon add more than 200,000 employees in 2017, the first nine months of 2018 indicate that the company's workforce will be growing at a less spectacular rate this year.
In the first nine months of 2018, the e-commerce giant added 47,000 employees to its global workforce, which is less than the average quarterly growth of 2017 but still quite substantial. Amazon is only the second U.S company to employ more than half a million people, but it will have a hard time grabbing the number 1 spot anytime soon: Walmart currently employs 2.2 million people around the world.
