Around The World In 75 Days…On Biodiesel

Cummins diesel engine will power a boat run on alternative fuels that seeks to break the world circumnavigation record.

Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (CMD) said Friday that the Earthrace boat powered by one of its diesel engines and running solely on biodiesel will attempt to break the world circumnavigation record of 75 days.

If it succeeds, it would be the first vessel powered by alternative fuels to break a major powerboat record.

“We see Earthrace as a valuable project, drawing much-needed attention to the use of cleaner fuels on the water,” said Gary Dickman, CMD Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing. “Circumnavigating the globe represents the pinnacle of powerboat challenges and at 24,000 nautical miles, also is the world’s longest race.”

The CMD engines selected have low emissions and have a high power-to-weight ratio.

Earthrace is a non-profit organization aiming to raise awareness for alternative fuels.
