Toyota said Wednesday that for its North American manufacturing facilities vehicle production remained essentailly the same in 2006 as in 2005, while engine production reached record levels, up 10 percent, to 1.4 million engines.
In North America, Toyota produces the Avalon, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Corolla, Matrix, Sequoia, Sienna, Solara, Tacoma, Tundra and Lexus RX 350.
The company is currently planning start-up and expansion activities in North America that is expected to increase vehicle capacity to two million units by 2008, resulting in an additional 470,000 units of vehicle capacity.
Included in Toyota's capacity increases are: Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas which will be able to produce 200,000 units of Tundra pickup trucks annually, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada's Woodstock facility that will begin production of the RAV4 in 2008 with capacity of 150,000 units per year.
In 2007, is planning to bring several projects on line including: Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia, Inc. which will produce an additional 240,000 automatic transmissions for total of 600,000 automatic transmissions annually, and Bodine Aluminum, Inc.'s Jackson, Tenn., plant will increase capacity to build one million engine blocks and 270,000 cast aluminum transmission cases and housings.
