Apple Continues To Investigate Working Conditions

Ipod maker Apple continues to investigate the poor living conditions of employees at its China-based manufacturer.

Apple Computers has clarified that they had not cleared Foxconn’s iPod manufacturing facility in Longhua, China of any breaches of its supplier code of conduct as claimed by the company. The issue came to light after a media report covering the poor living conditions of the Foxconn factory workers.

“We are still investigating the working conditions at Foxconn’s manufacturing plant in Longhua. This is a thorough audit, which includes employee working and living conditions, interviews of employees and managers, compliance with overtime and wage regulations, and other areas as necessary to insure adherence to Apple’s supplier code of conduct,” according to a statement by Apple spokesman Steve Dowling.

According to Dowling, the supplier code of conduct for Apple has much higher expectations than the industry standard and is taking the allegation of noncompliance very seriously.
