GM Considering Further Expansion in Michigan

General Motors Corp. announced yesterday it was considering a plan to invest $407 million to expand two Michigan-based transmission plants.

General Motors Corp. announced yesterday it was considering a plan to invest $407 million to expand two Michigan-based transmission plants. If enacted, the plan would save more than 600 jobs at the plants in Ypsilanti and Warren, and keep the work from moving elsewhere. The announcement follows a plan GM disclosed in February to invest more than $545 million in five plants in Michigan, which would create an additional 280 jobs.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the automaker said a final decision on the latest plan could be made as early as the second quarter. Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm has announced an incentive package to encourage GM investment in the state.
