CLEVELAND (AP) -- Bombardier Inc. has awarded a unit of Parker Hannafin Corp. a contract worth up to $3.5 billion over 10 years to supply flight control systems for Bombardier aircraft, the companies said Friday.

Parker Aerospace will develop a fly-by-wire flight control system for all Bombardier wide-body aircraft that require it, starting with its commercial CSeries aircraft, the companies said.

The fly-by-wire system uses a computerized system, rather than a conventional mechanical system, to interpret pilot instructions.
