BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed $138,500 in penalties for a Cullman-based company for 31 safety and health violations.

AAR Summa Technology has been singled out by the agency for 26 safety violations. OSHA said its inspectors found reactive chemicals, cryogenic tanks exposed to damage and the improper storage and handling of flammable liquids.

Subsequent inspections found 5 serious health violations that included over exposure to silica, zinc oxide fumes and exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

AAR Summa Technology fabricates metal container pallets for the U.S. military.

The company has 15 days to appeal the proposed penalties announced Tuesday.
