MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Automobile industry officials say production in Mexico fell 48 percent in June due to lower foreign and domestic demand.

The Mexican Auto Industry Association says the country manufactured 101,991 vehicles last month, compared to 196,398 in June 2008.

Exports to the United States -- the biggest market for Mexican-made cars -- fell 45 percent. Domestic car sales were down 31 percent.

Mexico is the world's No. 10 car maker, and the auto industry is the country's biggest manufacturing sector.

The monthly figures were released Monday.
