OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Jams and jellies maker J.M. Smucker Co. announced Tuesday that it has acquired the Knott’s Berry Farm food brand from ConAgra Foods Inc.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. But the companies say the Knott’s Berry Farm brand of jams, jellies and preserves is expected to generate $40 million in annual net sales for Orrville, Ohio-based Smucker.
ConAgra spokesman Jeff Mochal said a ConAgra plant in Placentia, Calif., will close later this year after Smucker takes over production of the Knott’s Berry Farm products. About 90 jobs will be eliminated there.
ConAgra CEO Gary Rodkin said the company decided it could not give the Knott’s Berry Farm brand the attention it needs to grow.
Smucker's senior vice president Vince Byrd said the brand will complement its existing jelly products. Smucker also makes peanut butter, shortening and oils, ice cream toppings, sweetened condensed milk, and health and natural foods beverages. Among its brands are Smucker's, Jif, Crisco and Pillsbury.
Among the Omaha, Neb.-based ConAgra's brands are Healthy Choice, Banquet and Chef Boyardee.
