PITTSBURGH (AP) -- H.J. Heinz Co. plans to close a plant in Dallas next month, affecting nearly 200 employees.
The Pittsburgh-based food company says work now done at the plant will be transferred to Heinz facilities in Mason, Ohio, Jacksonville, Fla., and Chatsworth, Calif.
Officials say about 175 hourly and 20 salaried employees will be affected by the move. The company says it will work with government agencies to provide separation benefits and outplacement services.
Heinz has owned the Dallas plant since 1989. It is being closed as part of a consolidation effort. A spokesman says there are no plans to close other plants.
