Lance Reopening Archway Cookie Plant

Manufacturing.Net - December 10, 2008

ASHLAND, Ohio (AP) -- A cookie plant that closed two months ago in Ashland is reopening under a new company that surprised former employees with $1,500 Visa gift cards.

Charlotte, N.C.-based Lance, Inc. will begin operations next week at the former Archway plant with a staff of 50 to 70 workers. Nearly 300 employees lost their jobs when Archway filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October.

Lance officials handed out gift cards Tuesday and say they expect to finish hiring workers by Thursday.

Lance has promised to hire workers at the same rates they were making at Archway -- an average of $14.93 per hour.

Former Archway worker Don Haught of Ashland says he held hopes the bakery would reopen and wants to see everyone back to work.

Ashland is about 50 miles south of Cleveland.

Good News!  12/10/2008 4:24:00 PM
It's nice to actually read some good news involving manufacturing. In this case, I'm especially happy because I had some relatives at that Archway plant.
Good for Lance, Good for Ashland!  12/10/2008 4:30:00 PM
This is so encouraging its almost unbelievable. But as I sit here in Ashland I know it to be true. Great to know it's not all doom and gloom these days and some companies can still find a way to offer benefits that are beyond the industry standard or required by law.
WOW  12/10/2008 6:51:00 PM
i'm Shocked, but in such a Good Way !!! Kudos & Cheers to Lance !!!

Holiday Cookies  12/12/2008 11:19:00 AM
Now that you have acquired Archway Cookies--PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back (probably next year) the "Holiday Cookies" Archway put out every year and make it so that we can buy them online--specifically the Christmas Stars and Bells--ABSOLUTELY a ONE-OF-A-KIND DELICIOUS cookie and AWESOME! Problem is, I always had trouble finding them in stores (and bought TONS when I did find them)--so PLEASE, PLEASE sell them online next year and ADVERTISE it--people WILL buy them. I have read all kinds of blog about people wanting the Archway Christmas cookies (all kinds) from Archway but having trouble finding them. Please, please, please, please, please make them next year and sell them online!!!! It's one of those "special" holiday things that only come out once a year and these days, anything that is CONSISTENT and you can look forward to from year to year is a blessing for EVERYONE in these hard times. It's the little things....Thanks...
