DETROIT (AP) — BMW AG has unveiled its first diesel-powered vehicles for the U.S. market.

 

The German automaker said Sunday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit that its 335d coupe and X5 xDrive35d sport utility vehicle will be available this fall in all 50 states.

 

BMW says the vehicles fulfill U.S. carbon dioxide emission requirements and reduce emissions by about 25 percent compared to gasoline-fueled cars.

 

Chief Executive Norbert Reithofer said it's the right time to bring its clean diesels to the U.S. market as more customers expect high performance and fuel efficiency.

 

He said 40 percent of BMW cars sold globally are diesels, and the automaker sells more diesels than any other premium manufacturer.
