Exxon Mobil Seeks Dismissal Of Lawsuit Over Spill

Attorneys for Exxon Mobil Corp. and Exxon Pipeline Co. have filed a motion asking for dismissal of a lawsuit by Mayflower residents over a recent oil spill. ExxonMobil Pipeline's Pegasus pipeline ruptured March 29 and spilled thousands of barrels of oil in the town about 25 miles northwest of Little Rock and forced the evacuation of about 20 homes.

Calif. Utility Says It Will Retire Nuclear Plant

The troubled San Onofre nuclear power plant in Southern California is closing, after an epic 16-month battle over whether the twin reactors could be safely returned to service, officials announced Friday.Operator Southern California Edison said in a statement it will retire the twin reactors because uncertainty about the future of the plant.

U.S. employers added 175,000 jobs in May, steady hiring but below the more robust pace that took place during the fall and winter. The Labor Department says the unemployment rate rose to 7.6 percent from 7.5 percent in April. The increase occurred because more people began looking for work, a good sign.

TiVo says it's reached a deal to settle patent disputes with Cisco, Motorola and Time Warner Cable. Tivo will get an upfront lump-sum payment of $490 million from Google and Cisco. TiVo will also enter into patent licensing deals with Cisco, Google and Arris Group Inc.

General Motors CEO Dan Akerson says the company's finances are sound enough to consider paying a dividend or even buying more of its stock from the U.S. government. The CEO, in comments after GM's annual meeting Thursday, also said the company first has to keep investing in new vehicles and equipment.

Kolon Industries will be arraigned Friday morning in U.S. District Court in Richmond. Kolon is charged in a six-count federal indictment with theft of trade secrets, conspiracy to convert trade secrets and obstruction of justice. Five Kolon employees also face conspiracy and obstruction charges.

New York's economy grew at a slower pace than the national rate in 2012, ranking 37th among all states, according to a federal report released Thursday. The state's economic growth rate was 1.3 percent compared with the national rate of 2.5 percent, according to a U.S. Department of Commerce report released Thursday that is based on gross domestic product.

IKEA Recalls Coffee And Tea Cups Due To Burn Risk

IKEA is recalling its "LYDA" jumbo coffee and tea cups due a burn hazard. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday that the cups can break when hot liquid is poured into them. No injuries have been reported in the U.S., but 20 incidents have been reported worldwide, including 10 scalding injuries.

Activist investor Carl Icahn and Southeastern Asset Management Inc. are formally urging Dell shareholders to reject a buyout offer from the struggling PC maker's founder and investment firm Silver Lake Partners. Dell Inc. has agreed to sell itself to founder and CEO Michael Dell and Silver Lake for $24.4 billion, or $13.65 per share.

The Florida agency in charge of job creation on Wednesday accused the U.S. Department of Labor of conducting a politicized investigation against it. An attorney for the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity sent a letter to federal lawmakers and the federal Department of Labor's Inspector General, asking for an inquiry of the federal agency's probe of the state agency.
